Growth & Developments 1968 - 2010

"About our Credit Union"

About Us »

Newbridge Credit Union was established in November 1968, and is a typical community-based Credit Union whose common bond requires that members be residing or employed in the parishes of Newbridge, Caragh, Allen, Suncroft and Two-Mile-House.

The total population of these parishes is approximately 40,000 and total Credit Union membership is in excess of 30,000.

Initially the growth of the Credit Union was gradual, but this has changed in recent years, particularly in the 1990s and the current decade, as illustrated in the tables below.

The current management structure of the Credit Union reflects its co-operative ethos, as illustrated on the Organisation page.

Newbridge Credit Union is a community based, non-prfoit making financial co-operative which is member owned and controlled, and whose philosophy is based on sound principles of equity, equality and mutual self-help. The issue of mutuality and members sharing a common bond is central to our value based co-operative. It is one of the most dynamic and fastest growing co-operatives in Ireland.

The Credit Union is primarily a service organisation that exists to empower people to help themselves and establish a level of independence that improves the quality of their own lives and the community as a whole.
